  • We have been running awareness and screening programs in urban areas (covering urban women community, Corporates and Govt School Teachers) and in Chikkaballapur Dist (Reral programmes). The intention is to identify women in precancerous state and aid in treatment and prevention of overt cervical cancer.

  • Under urban programs, we have conducted awareness talks and screening programs in Bangalore:

  • Oracle, Eclinical works, MVJ medical college, MS Ramaiah Dental college, Ujjivan, ACT TV, JSS Medical college, Govt school teachers (North zone)

  • Under rural programs, initially we had chosen Muddenahalli PHC (Chikkaballapur Taluk) for our pilot study and covered all 56 villages since the beginning of 2012. The model which has been adopted is as follows:

    1. Identifying the PHC – sub centre - all the villages in the sub centre.
    2. Weekly screening programme in villages (single or 2 to3 nearby villages together)
    3. We have a local coordinator and a MSW worker to create door to door awareness and to conduct screening in a prefixed place (usually Govt school premises).
    4. Chikkaballapur is approximately 85 kms from Bangalore and the entire team with the screening equipment travelled to the venue for every camp. 70 -80% of the eligible women population is covered as part of this screening in every village.
    5. The pap smears are collected and labelled properly and submitted to pathology lab with brief relevant information of that woman. Further evaluation and proper treatment are offered to screen positive women. The cost of treatment is made available free/ at subsidized rates at M.S. Ramaiah Hospital (Dr.Sundari, President of Mahati Trust works at M.S. Ramaiah Hospital).
    6. After the pilot study being successful albeit with lot of challenges we decided to continue the project.

  • Nandi PHC in Chikkaballapur district was chosen for the regular screening activities and started population based screening from May 2014 and successfully completed all the 46 villages, covered 3213 women and collected 1993 smears in this PHC.

  • We were also awarded a project from District Health Department of Chikkaballapur to screen all the 5000 health workers of Chikkaballapur district. The project was successfully completed with CSR funds from HAL.

  • As 3rd PHC, Nayanahalli was chosen and screening of eligible women was completed as part of our continued rural screening program. Conducted 32 camps and covered 36 villages with coverage of 2250 women and 2065 smears.

  • Completed Dibbur PHC which has 45 villages and covered 2323 women

  • Started same project Co-working with SST in Indalwadi Tehsil, Anekal Taluk with CSR funds from Bosch, India Foundation. Screened 100 women in Indalwadi Tehsil.

  • Completed Peresandra PHC that had 39 villages, covered 2348 women and collected 2049 papsmear slides.

  • Completed Mandikal PHC , covered 36 Villages, Covered 1846 women and collected 1586 pap smear slides

  • GudibandaTaluk ( Hampasandra, Beecheganahalli and Ellodu PHCs) is complete by covering 83 villages, 3952 women and collected 3466 pap smear samples.

With the help of District Health office, Chikkaballapur, a colposcopy machine is set up at chikkaballapur Govt hospital to conduct colposcopy for screen positive women.Colposcopy and directed biopsies are performed regularly for screen positive women.

Partnered with Sri Sai Sarla Memorial hospital, we continue the screening program in Sidlaghatta Taluk and completed Jangamakote and Hemarlahalli PHCs. Having an MOU with SSSMH, the pap smear positive patients are sent to Sri Sai Sarla Memorial hospital for further evaluation and the required treatment.
